N.Y. Chief Justice Says Judiciary Is Prepared to Sue to Obtain Raises
An emotional Chief Judge Judith S. Kaye said Monday the New York judiciary will not remain "docile in the face of the shabby treatment" it is getting from officials of other governmental branches and is prepared to sue to get judges their first raises in more than eight years. Kaye said a suit would be the "very last resort," but that she may take that step if a pay increase is not authorized by June. Kaye described the latest failed attempt to obtain a pay raise as "distressing and infuriating."
