Fla. Court Calls Law Firm's Role in Fire-Fee Deal 'Reprehensible'
A Florida appeals court, taking Adorno & Yoss to task Wednesday for what it called a "scheme to defraud" and a "case of unchecked avarice," disgorged the firm's fee and affirmed a lower court ruling that vacated a $7 million award of taxpayer dollars to seven plaintiffs who had contested an assessment for emergency fire services. The suit was characterized as a class action in which plaintiffs represented all Miami taxpayers, but, as the judges wrote, that characterization became a bone of contention.
