At a time when many big law firms are operating more like corporations, the question is whether compensation for their chiefs should become more like corporations as well. "The complexity of managing is much more challenging," says Sheldon Bonovitz, chairman and chief executive of Duane Morris. "Most attorneys aren't trained to do that." But one consultant says not paying chairmen and chairwomen on par with the amount that most senior partners make could send the wrong message.
