Soldiers who claim the Department of Veterans Affairs hasn't provided vital services got their day in court Monday, when a bench trial began in San Francisco. Morrison & Foerster's Gordon Erspamer says the case is the first of its kind against the DVA. He estimates that 120 veterans of duty in Iraq or Afghanistan commit suicide each week. Veterans' groups aren't seeking monetary damages but want reform of a health care system in which they allege a case backlog prevents veterans from getting timely care.
